Online Therapy

What Is Online Therapy?

Online therapy, also known as telehealth counseling, is similar to in-person sessions with your therapist, but instead of coming into the office, you and your counselor meet in a comfortable place of your choosing using interactive audio and video technology through an online platform.

Online Therapy: Easy and Comfortable

You can do your session from any device that you have that has audio and a camera, which could be your phone, computer, or iPad. You will be able to see your therapist through video so have an interactive experience just as you would through in-person sessions.

Telehealth therapy provides you the ability to meet with a therapist in the comfort of your own home, or anywhere else that might be more convenient for you. Telehealth therapy makes coming to therapy more convenient for those who have a busy lifestyle, and have limited time throughout the day to drive to a therapist's office.

I am licensed in both Arizona and Colorado, so even though I live in Arizona, I am able to see clients who also live in Colorado because I can do online therapy!

What Are The Advantages and Disadvantages?

Advantages of Online Therapy

The main advantage of telehealth therapy is that you do not have to leave your home to see your therapist. Some individuals may feel more comfortable opening up to a therapist in the comfort of their own home. Client’s no longer have to worry about running into someone they know in the waiting room at a therapy office, and so telehealth also offers more confidentiality in this way.

Telehealth therapy is also more convenient for people who have a busy life, and may only be able to fit in a session on a break at work. Most telehealth platforms are easy to use, and usually only need one click of a button to get to your session!

Disadvantages of Online Therapy

Some of the disadvantages of telehealth therapy are that it may be difficult for some to find a quiet spot where they will not be interrupted. There is the potential obstacle of technological issues on your phone or computer that could interfere with the session. These problems typically occur when there is no good internet connection where the client is at.

Is Telehealth Safe and Effective?

Research has shown that therapy conducted through telehealth is just as effective as regular therapy. It can take some adjusting too if you are used to in-person counseling, although I have been able to make great connections with my clients even though I have only met them through the telehealth platform. I myself have seen the same amount of progress and connection made with clients through online therapy that I was getting with in-person therapy.

Online Therapy HIPPA Compliance

Some individuals are unsure about the level of confidentiality and security with online sessions. To reassure you, all therapists must follow HIPPA regulations to make sure their telehealth systems are secure and I make it a priority to keep conversations secure and confidential. You can see for yourself what it could be like by booking a free 15-minute consultation call through the online platform!
