Feeling nervous, restless, or tense most days?

  • Do you have a sense of impending danger, panic, or doom?

  • Constantly worried about what others are thinking of you making it difficult to socialize?

  • Do you tend to isolate due to anxiety and fear of rejection?

It can be difficult to live with anxiety symptoms that cause you to feel debilitated in social situations, at work, and engaging in things you want to enjoy.  Life can be more manageable with skills to manage anxiety and understanding the root cause of your anxiety.

Constant anxiety can be frustrating and debilitating at times

Many people experience stress which is a common emotion with life challenges of relationships, work, family, and day-to-day responsibilities.  While being stressed can feel unpleasant, many people can manage stress and get through life okay.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is when stress becomes so excessive that it affects your daily life and ability to cope with everyday stressors.  People with anxiety have constant racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, and constant worry that something bad is going to happen, making it difficult to push themselves to get through hard moments.  Sometimes these worries can feel uncontrollable and defeating.

Individual therapy can help you manage anxiety symptoms

Therapy is a great way to start your journey of managing your anxiety symptoms.  At Aspen Grove Counseling we offer a safe and non-judgmental environment for you to be open and honest about your symptoms, and work with a therapist who shows empathy and compassion for what you are going through.

Individual therapy is not about telling you what to do with your life, but helping you find coping skills along with identifying the root of your anxiety so that you can understand yourself better to move through life stressors.  Individual therapy provides tools to manage stress and anxiety, helps you communicate what you need from others around you, along with new ways of viewing situations in your life to better cope when things feel overwhelming.

What to expect in your first therapy session

Your therapist will begin by asking you questions about your history to understand where the source of your anxiety may be coming from.  History assessment is the first step in attending therapy and is crucial to getting a full picture of your life to better understand the circumstances that could have triggered the anxiety, how you might see the world, and create goals for treatment to manage your unique anxiety symptoms.

Your therapist will then recommend how often they think you should attend therapy based on your symptoms, and discuss goals for treatment that you and your therapist come up with together to make sure that you are satisfied with the focus of treatment.

Sign of worry less on a table

When you are experiencing high anxiety it’s easy to feel isolated and alone in how you feel. For most people, the feelings of high anxiety can be difficult to control.  You may logically know that certain situations won’t be traumatic, but you still avoid them to keep from being triggered by these emotions.  Anxiety disorders are the most common type of mental health concern, and while many people don’t talk about it, it is something that many people struggle with.

Many people do not even know they are experiencing anxiety until they enter therapy.  They might assume that it is just stress, and this is how most people feel.  That excessive worry is something that many people feel when they have had traumatic events happen to them, or constant struggles in life causing them to be on high alert for the next bad thing to happen, making it difficult to feel safe and calm.

Anxiety disorders can take many forms, and not everyone experiences the same triggers, although they may have similar symptoms.  Some of the most common types include Generalized Anxiety disorder, Panic Disorder, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Separation anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder.

Customizing therapy approaches for your needs

Every client is unique in their needs, and Aspen Grove Counseling strives to meet each client where they are to help them feel successful.  Depending on the severity of symptoms, your therapist may use different treatment approaches to assist you with managing your anxiety symptoms.

One of the common forms of treatment for anxiety including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which helps people challenge the way they think and behave around triggering events, along with increased coping skills to manage anxiety symptoms in hard moments.

Other forms of treatment could include Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) which helps clients identify the deep meaning they put behind anxious moments, where this anxiety may have come from, and how they can effectively communicate what they need from others around them to help them through tough moments.  It can also help with insight within themselves in challenging their perspective on triggers for anxiety and being able to move through triggers in a new way with less stress.

But you may still have questions about therapy for anxiety…

Can therapy help if I have panic attacks?

Treatment can help reduce the intensity and frequency of your panic attacks related to anxiety and improve function in your daily life.  The therapist will assess your history and the severity of your panic symptoms and identify treatment options that will best suit your needs.  Seeing results from treatment can take time and effort to learn new skills, challenge your thinking patterns, and learn to manage triggers in your daily life.

How do I know if I should attend therapy for anxiety?

Although many people experience stress and anxiety to some degree, it may be time to seek professional help if our symptoms are negatively affecting your daily life.  If you feel that your anxiety is interfering with your personal or professional relationships, creating sleep issues, affecting your ability to concentrate, stopping you from doing things you enjoy, isolating yourself from others, or causing suicidal ideation.  Anxiety can also cause physical symptoms as well.  If you find that any of these symptoms are true for you, then professional help would be a good first step to managing your anxiety.

What payment options are available for therapy to help with anxiety?

For individuals diagnosed with anxiety, therapy can make a huge difference in their symptoms and overall mental health.  Many individuals will find that if they do not seek therapy, they will continue to struggle with anxiety and feel lost on how to manage it.  While therapy does cost money, it can also improve your quality of life, offering a safe space for self-expression, improved self-awareness, and a chance to address the reason for your anxiety.

Aspen Grove Counseling does accept insurance to assist with making therapy affordable to those needing therapy for anxiety.  If we do not accept your insurance, we also offer a superbill to anyone who is private pay that you can provide to your insurance company as an out-of-network provider to work on getting reimbursement for therapy.
